St Andrew's Update Week 35

We were pleased to welcome Archdeacon Dave to St Andrew's last Sunday for the 10am Parish Eucharist.  His homily focussed upon the readings for that day, namely, extracts from the Letter of James and Mark's Gospel.  Jesus rebuked religious protocols which demanded human observances rather than those from God and that we should be putting into practise the word rather than simply listening to it, aiming to govern our tongues and on a daily basis we should listen to God and try hard to practise self control.

Churchwarden Chris reminded us that September would be a busy month and that by referring to our website and keeping an eye on pew sheets and notices delivered as well as on our noticeboards, we can keep in touch, particularly to the 14th September Sponsored Bike 'n' Hike (details from Andrew: 313387) and our annual Country Fayre on 21st September, to which we expect the usual great response from a wide area. Mandy, our Parish Administrator, can be contacted on 317207.  Leave a brief message if the office is closed.

On Thursday, 12th September, there will be the usual 9:30am Holy Communion followed by hot beverages in the Chapter House.  On Saturday, 14th September, between 10am and 12 noon, there is Coffee Shop in the Chapter House.  On Sunday, 15th September, at the start of Parish Eucharist at 10am, there will be the launch of our very long established and successful Shoebox Charity.  Details then.  At 5:30pm, on the same day, there will be Taize Worship at Cockayne Hatley Church.  Meanwhile, at 6pm, there will be our more informal act of corporate worship at St Andrew's, Sunday @ 6.  On Thursday,19th September, there will be a MU Ploughman's Lunch in the Chapter House.

Finally, as we are an integral part of the Diocese of St Albans, our website includes relevant information about this.  The Abbey Church is its historic centre and to where we make an annual pilgrimage.

All are welcome at St Andrew's for private prayer from Monday to Saturday between 9am to 4pm.
