At the start of last Sunday's Parish Eucharist we were pleased to welcome our old friend, Reverend Canon Lindsay, and during the homily his gentle exposition nonetheless packed something of a punch, the theme of which from John's Gospel, continued to have a heavy focus on the significance of the 'broken' bread in the Communion. This intimate moment should not be treated as simply a personal and routine experience but something to be shared and taken with the utmost commitment, being our corporate point of contact with Christ, a spiritual experience to guide and refresh us in all of our daily thoughts and deeds.
Coffee and tea followed in the Chapter House but not sausage rolls which Reverend Lindsay playfully suggested.
Next Sunday's Eucharist will start as usual at 10am, marking the Fourteenth Sunday after Trinity with refreshments and fellowship to follow.
Again the same old reminders: St Andrew's is open for private prayer from Monday to Saturday between 9am and 4pm. This also provides an opportunity for a look at the notices in the foyer and of course, to take in the quiet ambience of the interior of the church building itself. Two events are worth noting in particular because they are looming close: the annual sponsored Bike 'n' Ride in aid of the Beds and Herts Churches Trust on the 14th September. Those participating will have options to either look at the glorious heritage of churches and college chapels in central Cambridge or the bike to various churches in our more immediate area. Cost: £15 per person. This is all a loose summary and for more information, please contact Andrew on 01767 313387. Next, there will be our Annual Country Fayre on 21st September where the grounds will be opened up to various stalls and entertainments and the interior of the church buildings will have displays and refreshments. The two charities that we will be supporting will be Water Aid and the Noah Enterprise. More information will be given nearer the date.
