St Andrew's Update Week 33

Last Sunday marked the finale of our annual Holiday Club with a special 11am Service of Praise and Thanksgiving for its success and fellowship, shared with so many youngsters from the Biggleswade area and, enjoying sunny late Summer weather, a barbeque followed outside.  The worship received a fantastic turn out when over 160 attended.  The theme to this year's Holiday Club was Deep Sea Diving which the impressive stage scenery clearly demonstrated beneath the sanctuary arch.  This meant in fact, going deeper into Matthew's Gospel, focusing on the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus.  The whole enterprise included over 160 children and nearly 50 volunteers.  The service was taken by Reverend Liz, Ben, Pippa and Rachel and we must include the 'sharks', Oscar, Freya and Ethan.  A big Well Done to everyone.

Before this, the usual 10am Eucharist began at the earlier time of 9:30 during which Reverend Liz's homily, faithfully following the reading for that day which focused upon the symbolism of bread.  In our everyday use of bread as an established staple, yeast is of course fundamental to its quality. In the Christian faith, bread is blessed as the spiritual yeast of God and in the Communion, we are nourished by it and our faith is invigorated as we each continue with our daily round.

Again, remember that St Andrew's Church is open for private prayer throughout each week, from Monday to Saturday, from 9am to 4pm., providing also an opportunity to read the notices on display in the foyer as well as outside.  There may well be copies of our weekly 'pew sheets' which are packed with information and contact details.  Then, there is our permanent website which is regularly updated.

Here are two such details:  On 4th September, at 2pm, the Mothers' Union will be talking in the Ivel Room about what they have done and what is being planned for the future.  Then, on the 19th September, between 12 and 2pm, the MU will be providing a Ploughman's Lunch in the Chapter House.  More details about this will no doubt be following.

Also looking ahead, our next Sunday 10am Family Eucharist will be on 8th September, followed by lunch for those who have booked  and again, similarly, the Harvest Festival Family Eucharist is on 4th October followed by lunch.

Finally, St Andrew's Country Fayre will be on Saturday, 21st September which will be supporting Water Aid and the Noah Enterprise.
