Last Sunday marked the last throw of the heatwave - at least for the time being - and no doubt many were conscious of the fact that the academic year was drawing to a close as well. We are in High Summer and it was pleasant to see a good bunch of children being led out to the Chapter House for Sunday School. However, there was more than a tinge of deep sadness amongst the church family as the morning's updates were given out to the silent congregation, an undercurrent of concern and worry. It is always upsetting when anyone is unwell, and having to go through the anxious journey to recovery. It is perhaps even more poignant when this applies to those best known for their tireless work and witness and we know that loved ones are having to shoulder part of the burden. This is when faith really kicks in. We ask for God's blessing to all affected. The 10am Parish Eucharist continued, sadly with certain faces not present. Reverend Liz's homily was nonetheless reassuring in that the breaking of the bread and the sharing of the chalice and is our sacred invitation, stating that; "It is God who sorts the path before us." The Gospel transforms us and it is not just about an abstract idea. We are all recipients of God's grace and our neighbour is anyone in need. With acts of compassion and mercy, we can uphold the value of the Gospel. The service of worship was concluded with the Commissioning and Prayers for those bound for South Africa this coming Saturday, 19th July, an idea and partnership originally inspired by Chris, and who will be this year's Team and we wish them well in their daily witness in Mafambisa.
This Sunday, 20th July, 10am Parish Eucharist will occur as usual. All are welcome.
