St Andrews Update Fifth Sunday of Easter 2025

Last Sunday in church a few faces were missing, possibly because of the Bank Holiday which was followed by the Half Term Break, providing an opportunity to get away for a change of scene, particularly for families. We were grateful to see Fr Les again who officiated during the service. The day in question marked Rogation, the roots of which go back to supplication or 'asking'. The content of the homily was in part based upon the readings chosen for the day.  In summary, Jesus was preparing for the events leading up to and beyond his physical departure and giving reassurance to his followers that the Holy Spirit would come as a point of spiritual contact.  We in turn should go deeper into God and by so doing, let God go deeper into us as we strive for that vision of a New Jerusalem in a broken world.  We can all do our bit, so to speak, in the healing of the nations through prayer and supplication.

During the course of the week, Ascension Day was celebrated and in the case of St Andrew's, this was marked in our regular Thursday Eucharist which was, as always, followed by a cuppa in the Chapter House. This Saturday, 31st May, there is Coffee Shop, between 10am and 12 noon.  Tomorrow, Environment Sunday, 1st June, there is 10am Parish Eucharist and for those who have previously booked, there will be our monthly Sunday Lunch.  We remain ever grateful to all who provide this always very generous three course feast.

Meanwhile, the church is open between Monday and Friday from 9am to 4pm, week by week.  You are welcome for prayer and solace, to enjoy the grounds during the Summer weeks when they are looking at their best and to read the notices in the foyer and to look at the current events planned on the pew sheets.  The church website is: https//www.standrewschurchbiggleswade.org.uk  and by telephone: 01767 317207 and the satnav code:  SG18 0AT.
