In last Sunday's 10am Parish Eucharist, Reverend Liz's homily continued to highlight the beautiful season of Advent. Young David lit the third candle. John the Baptist and Prophet prepared people for the coming of the Messiah, imploring them and us to make amends. In picture language, the rotten trees can be thrown into the flames and to nurture new growth takes time and patience. We may not be able to see the roots but they are busy nonetheless spreading and working. We can all share in the joys to come.
This Saturday, 21st December, between 10:30am and 12 noon, there will be our annual Nativity Tableau in the Market Square. Anna is keen to see her craft and chat group who would normally be in the Chapter House, coming instead to the nativity story in order to join in heartily with the singing. Her next meeting for crafty stuff and sewing will be on Saturday, 18th January, 2025. Perhaps you can bring along a new member to share in the craft and chit-chat in the Chapter House to start the New-ish Year off.
This Sunday, 22nd December, there will be 10am Parish Eucharist and then, at 6pm, there will be traditional Nine Lessons and Carols. All as always are welcome.
On Tuesday, 24th December, Christmas Eve, at 6pm, there will be the Crib Service, followed later, at 11:30pm, Midnight Mass, when we will see Christmas Day emerge whilst all is dark outside. On Christmas Day at 10am, there will be Parish Eucharist but there will be no Service on Thursday, 26th December.
Just before the New Year, on Sunday, 29th December, at the usual time of 10am, there will be the final Parish Communion of the old year. All are welcome.
In the new year, on Thursday, 2nd January, there will be 9:30am Holy Communion in the Chapter House. Then, on Sunday, 5th January, 2025, there will be our 8am more traditional Said Communion, followed by 10am, Family Eucharist. For those who have booked beforehand, there will be the 12:45pm Sunday Lunch in the Chapter House.
St Andrews Church wishes you and your family and friends a Very Blessed and Content Christmas.
