St Andrew's Update 1st After Trinity 2025

Last Sunday saw a slight change in the weather. Those attending the regular 10am Parish Eucharist, listened to Reverend Liz expounding upon the previous week's events, including those who had been Confirmed as well as to the youngsters who had received Admission to Holy Communion.  There was a fair amount to ponder, including our pleasure in having a recent Curate Placement with us, if only for a brief while.  Reader Rosemary delivered her homily which was based in part on the Readings for that specific day, as well as a significant mention being made of Alban, a converted Roman soldier who took a Christian priest's place and donning his cloak, went to his martyrdom with the declaration: "I worship and adore the true and living God who created all things." From Galatians, we were reminded again that our differences are of little importance if we know that in Christ we are all as one.  The Gospel Reading  which recounts the healing of Legion, formerly so tormented by demons, highlights our changed and more compassionate views on mental illness in general, and in such circumstances our prayers and sympathy are always urgently needed.   John, our Chairman and member of the Trustees of the Friends of St Andrew's, delivered a brief but important account of The Friends' reason for being.  This long established group collectively maintains and enhances the fabric of our church building in order to maintain this place of worship to a very pleasing standard and that assignments continue to marry up things spiritual with things practical.  Membership is currently 144.

This coming Sunday, 10am Parish Eucharist will take place, no doubt mindful of the previous day's Ordinations at St Alban's Abbey Church, the heart of our diocese.  Then, at 2:30pm, our Bell Tower will be sending forth the skills of the Bedfordshire Youth Ringers.

On Saturday,5th July, the VE/VJ Day Celebrations will be taking place on our town's Market Square.

On Sunday, 13th July, at 3pm, the East Beds Chamber Choir Concert will be full voice at St Andrew's Church.
