Last Sunday's 10am Parish Eucharist took place as usual whilst a goodly number of youngsters attended Sunday School - for the most part in the Chapter House. The windows of the north aisle looked onto a murky late Autumn morning and indoors out of the gusty conditions was definitely the right place to be.
This was also labelled by our vicar and PCC, as 'Generous Giving Sunday' which in some shape or form takes place from time to time. However, it was not simply a question of 'rattling the tin', so to speak, and during her homily, Reverend Liz gave a more heartfelt and deeper purpose behind the current thought provoking correspondence, designed to help us all go deeper into our personal ways of mission. Money, as in most aspects of our daily living, will always come into the equation but alongside the need for keeping the whole physical structure going, we in the church family are being asked to consider the broader meaning of 'generous giving' by thinking or re-thinking of how and when and where we can give of our time and talents. Much to consider in prayer and contemplation. This stratagem goes on. There are no quick fixes but this is a good time to open the windows and let some fresh air into our dulled brains!
