St Andrew's Update Bible Sunday

Last Sunday's 10am Parish Eucharist took place as scheduled but we came to church an hour later as the clocks had been turned back and now we await shorter days of daylight in earnest and very soon, Autumn will give way to Winter proper.  The congregation seemed fairly bereft of youngsters and of course, it was Half Term and so one can only conclude that some families had made a move to pastures new for the duration.  However, we were pleased to welcome Canon Tim and apparently this was his first visit to St Andrew's.  His base is St Albans Abbey Church from where he regularly travels the bounds of the diocese, spreading words concerning the question of Mission within our various communities and practical as well as biblical guidance was forthcoming in his homily. God's creation was initially good but humanity spoilt this and hence we occupy a broken world. However, through Christ's death and resurrection for our redemption we can declare the Good News.

This Sunday, 3rd November, All Saints' Day, will be particularly busy and eventful.  8am Traditional Said Communion is followed by 10am Family Eucharist.  Then, at 12:45pm for those who have booked, there will be our three course hot Sunday Roast in the Chapter House. Later, at 6pm, there will be Sung Evensong for All Souls.

As always, our calendar is pretty full and as so often stated in print, more information is forthcoming on our church website and on the noticeboards inside our foyer and outside as well. This week, to conclude this article, perhaps attention should focus upon remembrance.  On Sunday, 10th November, at 9:30am, we mark Remembrance Sunday first in church in our slightly earlier Parish Eucharist and secondly we join the town on the square at 10:45am for the Market Square Remembrance Service.  Later, at 6pm, there will be our more informal service of worship back in church.  On Monday, 11th November, at 10;45am, there will be the Armistice Day Service, in the Market Square.
